Diet: Fish, squid and other small sea animals.²
Habitat: Coastal seas, nests in burrows or crevices in vegetated sand dunes, rocky cliff bases and breakwaters. ¹
Notes: Smallest penguin in the world, the male is a little larger than the female but it is not really possible to tell them apart at a glance.
Location: Unreleasable captive bird at Penguin Island Discovery Centre.
Similar Species: Could possibly be mistaken for other small penguins, it is the smallest penguin and bluer than most, lacks elaborate eyebrows &/or facial marking of most local penguins.
Conservation Status: Marine.
